LISA SHANAHAN

Clinical Psychologist

In addition to private practice Lisa works in the renal unit at the RAH. Lisa has extensive and varied experience as a psychologist having previously worked within Adult and Community Mental Health settings, Child and Adolescent Health Services with children and young adults with Autism and intellectual disability, in Forensic, Brain injury and University Health services.


Lisa's original background is in horticulture and education and she maintains an active interest in teaching, particularly in the areas of prevention and early intervention in mental health.


Lisa utilises a strength based model to inform her work, integrating a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Systems based approaches and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to name but a few. She sees her role as a facilitator, assisting her clients to develop the skills necessary to better manage their own circumstances.



Areas of practice:


Working with adults, children and adolescents their families in the areas of:

Anxiety, Depression, Panic attacks, Phobias, Stress, Self-esteem, PTSD,OCD, Mood swings, Psychosis and Bipolar disorder, Self harming behaviours, Anger, Drugs & alcohol, Eating disorders, Pain management, Serious illness management, Brain injury, Adult survivors of childhood abuse, Relationships, Grief, Parenting, Behaviour difficulties in children, Bullying, ADHD, Autism and Asperger's syndrome. Providing services under Medicare, Return to Work SA, major health funds and motor vehicle insurance companies.


Lisa is not NDIS registered but happy to provide services to those with plan managed and self managed plans. Able to provide assessments and treatment plans as required.
